Proposal Application Guide for Second International Research Call on Climate Compatible Development

This document is a proposal application guide for the Second International Research Call on Climate Compatible Development, published by the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) in September 2011. • CDKN expects most funding requests to fall between £400,000 and £500,000 GBP, with an absolute maximum limit of £1 million GBP. All budget indications must be submitted in Pounds Sterling.
• Eligible research projects should typically last between 18 and 24 months, with an anticipated implementation window from April 2012 to July 2014.
• Research focus is primarily directed toward developing countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean, with a specific emphasis on the poorest countries or poorer regions of middle-income countries.
• Proposals are evaluated on eight criteria, with the highest weight given to 'Scientific Excellence and Research Quality' and 'Policy Impact'. Any proposal scoring less than 7 out of 10 on either of these two criteria will be disqualified from funding.
• A critical requirement for funding is that research must be 'demand-led', meaning it must respond directly to the needs of developing country decision-makers. Applicants are encouraged to provide direct evidence, such as support letters from government departments.
• CDKN's management is led by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) in alliance with the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), LEAD International, INTRAC, and regional partners Fundación Futuro Latinoamericano, SouthSouthNorth, and LEAD Pakistan.
