CDKN Innovation Fund (Round 2) – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

This FAQ document outlines the application requirements and funding structure for Round 2 of the CDKN Innovation Fund, which specifically targets innovation processes focused on the Africa region.

• The total budget for Round 2 of the CDKN Innovation Fund is GBP200,000, which will be split into two awards with a maximum value of GBP100,000 each. Following this, CDKN may offer implementation awards of up to GBP200,000 each to support high-quality results from the innovation processes.
• Round 2 is exclusively for 'innovation processes'—defined as interactive spaces or workshops that convene stakeholders to find 'game-changing' solutions—rather than fully-fledged research proposals. Acceptable outputs include project proposals, policy briefs, conceptual frameworks, learning materials, best practice tool kits, or implementation road maps.
• Applications must be focused on the Africa region and align with the CDKN's year 3 strategy for Africa. The applicant group must include at least two partners, and the Lead Applicant must be an African organisation, not an international institution based in Africa. Additionally, the majority of funds must be allocated to African institutions.
• Applications are assessed based on several criteria: innovation, demand, policy impact, value for money, design and partnership, alignment with CDKN objectives, and a focus on learning and African capabilities. 'Demand-led' is defined as having buy-in from a developing country government, ministry, or department, evidenced by documents such as ministerial statements, white papers, or national climate change strategy papers.
