The role of knowledge brokers in advancing climate action

The document defines knowledge brokering as the process of linking knowledge producers and users to move knowledge into action. It emphasizes that while scientific evidence is necessary, it is insufficient alone to drive policy shifts. The text argues that climate knowledge brokers must now move beyond mere information dissemination toward 'innovation brokering,' acting as facilitators of change who integrate western scientific, experiential, and Indigenous knowledge to build a climate-resilient world.

• Knowledge brokering is defined as the mechanism for moving knowledge into action by connecting those who produce knowledge with those who use it to facilitate its generation, dissemination, and application.
• Effective climate action requires the integration of diverse knowledge types, including western scientific research, experiential knowledge from practitioners, and traditional or tacit knowledge from Indigenous communities and local stakeholders, within inclusive and safe spaces.
• Due to the scale and urgency of the climate crisis, the role of knowledge brokers must evolve from focusing on the accessibility and relevance of information toward 'innovation brokering' and acting as facilitators of systemic change.
