INSIDE STORY: Climate-smart agriculture - Learning from three agro-ecological regions of Nepal

The 'Scaling-up of climate-smart agriculture in Nepal' project, funded by the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), aims to increase farming resilience by promoting climate-smart agricultural technologies. • Effective implementation of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) requires interventions based on socially disaggregated vulnerability assessments that reflect local contexts and risks. Furthermore, CSA technologies are more readily accepted by communities when they offer multiple benefits and integrate well into existing agricultural systems.
• The success and sustainability of CSA programmes are enhanced by building the capacity of existing agricultural development institutions and utilizing a multi-stakeholder approach involving the private sector, government extension offices, and NGOs. Additionally, promoting technologies as a package or portfolio of measures is more effective than implementing them in isolation.
