Perceptions of climate change and adaptation to microclimate change and variability among smallholder farmers in Mhakwe Communal Area, Manicaland province, Zimbabwe

This research paper assesses the perceptions of climate change and the microscale adaptive strategies employed by 43 smallholder farmers in the Mhakwe Communal Area of Zimbabwe.

• Smallholder farmers in the Mhakwe Communal Area receive information regarding climate change and variability from non-governmental organisations and government agencies.
• Farmers in the study area utilize several adaptation strategies, including gardening, agroforestry, mulching, zero tillage, and adjusting planting timing.
• The study suggests that external agencies should prioritize the strengthening of current adaptive strategies and expand capacity-building programs for the dissemination of analyzed climate and weather data.
