Manual in terms of PAIA and POPIA

This document is a manual for The National Parks Trust of South Africa, compiled to comply with the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) and the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). It outlines the procedures for requesting access to records held by the Trust, the categories of information available, and the protocols for processing and protecting personal data.

• The National Parks Trust of South Africa was established in 1986 by Dr Anton Rupert, a patron of WWF South Africa, following a R4 million donation from two foreign donors which the South African Government agreed to match.
• The Trust is managed by WWF South Africa, which maintains all relevant records, as the Trust itself has no employees. To date, the Trust has generated over R75 million to purchase land for the expansion of South Africa's protected area network.
• Annual Financial Statements are the only category of records available from the Trust without a formal request under the Act.
• To request access to records, requesters must use a prescribed form and submit it to the Information Officer. Non-personal requesters are required to pay a request fee of R140.00, while those seeking their own personal information are exempt from this fee.
• The Trust holds several categories of records, including administration and operational records (such as minutes and correspondence), financial management records (including budgets, tax returns, and auditor's reports), and governance records such as the Trust Deed.
• Personal information processed by the Trust includes data from directors, trustees, service providers, consultants, contractors, and partners. This information may be supplied to agents, financial institutions, suppliers, service providers, and government or regulatory bodies.
• The Trust may transfer personal information to a third party in a foreign country under specific conditions, such as when the recipient is subject to adequate protection laws, the data subject consents, or the transfer is necessary for a contract.
