SAWCT Manual in terms of PAIA and POPIA

The SAWCT Manual, published by WWF South Africa in September 2025, provides a guide for requesting access to records and managing personal information held by the Southern African Wildlife College Trust in compliance with the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) and the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

• The Southern African Wildlife College Trust is a capital trust fund founded by WWF-SA in 2000, with the primary objective of providing funding for education and training in nature conservation management at the Southern African Wildlife College. Its broader goals include subsidising training for natural resource managers in SADC countries, reducing dependence on donors for environmental education institutions, and providing student bursaries.
• The Trust is managed by WWF South Africa, which maintains all relevant records, as the Trust itself has no employees.
• To request access to records, requesters must use a prescribed form (Annexure B) and submit it to the Information Officer. Non-personal requesters must pay a request fee of R140.00. Additional access fees apply for reproduction, search, and preparation, including a charge of R2.00 per A4-size photocopy or printed black and white copy.
• The Trust holds several categories of records, including administration and operational records (such as address lists, correspondence, and meeting minutes), financial management records (budgets, tax returns, and auditor's reports), governance documents (the Trust Deed), and legal/compliance records (funding agreements and Memoranda of Understanding).
• The Trust processes personal information for directors, trustees, service providers, consultants, contractors, and partners. This information may be supplied to government and regulatory bodies, financial institutions, suppliers, service providers, and agents.
• Personal information may be transferred to third parties in foreign countries if the recipient is subject to adequate protection laws, the data subject consents, the transfer is necessary for a contract, or it is for the benefit of the data subject and consent is not reasonably practicable.
