This document outlines the selection process for new groundwater monitoring sites in and around Cape Town to supplement existing networks in Newlands and Epping Industria, focusing on areas with high borehole density and specific geological settings.

• The City of Cape Town is diversifying its bulk water sources by targeting three underground reserves: the Cape Flats, Atlantis, and Table Mountain Group aquifers. While the Cape Peninsula and Cape Flats Water Source Area overlaps with the primary Cape Flats aquifer and the Table Mountain outcrop recharge area, the Atlantis aquifer is located outside this area. For the purposes of this project, the Atlantis and Cape Flats aquifers were not considered as potential areas of interest.
• Four new monitoring areas were selected to supplement existing sites in Newlands and Epping Industria. The selection was based on criteria including borehole density data, drilling activity during the Day Zero period, equipment accessibility and safety, and potential points of concern. The agreed-upon areas are Brackenfell (Residential/Industrial), Constantia/Bergvliet (Residential), Noordhoek (Residential), and Scarborough/Kommetjie (Residential).
