WWF Colombia is working to expand and manage the National System of Protected Areas (SINAP), notably through the Herencia Colombia (HECO) initiative. Launched in June 2022, HECO aims to secure $245 million to protect nearly 29 million hectares of landscapes and seascapes, supporting Colombia's 30X30 goal. A specific GCF project under HECO focuses on climate-resilient management for 5.72 million hectares, benefiting over 329,000 people directly and approximately 16.9 million people indirectly through ecosystem-based adaptation.

• The Herencia Colombia (HECO) Permanence Funding Project (PFP), ratified on June 23, 2022, seeks $245 million in public and private funding to protect nearly 29 million hectares of seascapes and landscapes. This supports Colombia's 30X30 goal to protect 30% of its seas and continental territory by 2030.
• Over its first 10 years, the HECO PFP intends to create approximately 15 million hectares of new marine areas in the Pacific and Caribbean, and more than 2 million hectares of new terrestrial protected areas.
• A proposed GCF project under HECO aims to implement climate-resilient management practices across 5.72 million hectares. This project is designed to directly benefit 329,658 people and indirectly benefit 16,944,180 people (33% of the population) through ecosystem-based adaptation that protects water regulation and supply for urban populations.
