Investor CDP 2014 Information Request

The World Resources Institute (WRI) reports its internal climate management and GHG emissions for the 2013 reporting year. WRI has established 2020 reduction targets for Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions, supported by an internal carbon fee of $50/mt CO2e on business travel. While Scope 1 and 2 emissions decreased, Scope 3 emissions—particularly from purchased goods and services—increased. WRI identifies reputational and operational risks related to climate change and is piloting primary data collection with its supply chain.

• Scope 3 emissions are the largest contributor to WRI's footprint, with 'Purchased goods and services' accounting for 3,880.5 metric tonnes CO2e and 'Business travel' accounting for 1,455.8 metric tonnes CO2e.
• WRI implements an internal pricing mechanism to fund sustainability work, charging a $50/mt CO2e fee on business travel emissions and a $2,000 monthly fee for purchased electricity and employee commuting emissions.
• WRI is engaging its value chain to improve data accuracy, having worked with 12 suppliers and partners representing 34% of total spend to collect primary GHG data.
