Distributor Inc. operated as a large independent chemical distributor in the United States, purchasing chemicals in bulk and repackaging them for small- and medium-sized businesses. The company distributed freon, a type of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC). Scientific evidence from the mid-1980s established that CFCs decrease stratospheric ozone concentrations, which increases the amount of ultraviolet light reaching the earth, potentially causing skin cancer, cataracts, and other health issues in humans, animals, and plants.
