Joint Communiqué on Long-term Low Greenhouse Gas Emission Development Strategies (LT-LEDS) to Inform 1.5°C-Aligned Action

The '2050 is Now' consortium calls for the integration of LT-LEDS into national planning to bridge the gap between short-term NDCs and long-term net-zero goals. The communiqué highlights that while global temperature projections have improved from 4°C to 2.7°C, 2024 was the warmest year on record at 1.55°C above pre-industrial levels. It recommends that COP30 promote LT-LEDS as catalysts for policy action, just transitions, and the mobilization of finance, urging the UNFCCC to prepare a third LT-LEDS Synthesis Report by COP31.

• Global temperature rise surpassed 1.5°C in 2024, with a global average of 1.55°C (2.79°F) above pre-industrial levels, and the warming average for 2025 to 2029 is likely to remain above this threshold.
• Despite current temperature trends, policy-driven progress has reduced projected warming from 4°C (7.2°F) fifteen years ago to approximately 2.7°C (4.9°F) today; additionally, LT-LEDS now cover more than 74% of global emissions.
• LT-LEDS serve as essential frameworks for countries to align climate and development ambitions, identify financial and technological needs, and create sectoral transition pathways that support a just global transition.
• The consortium recommends that COP30 encourage the submission or update of LT-LEDS by COP31 and requests the UNFCCC Secretariat to produce a third LT-LEDS Synthesis Report by that time to assess their effectiveness in shaping near-term action.
