• Corporate energy buyers in the United States have several options for integrating wind power into their energy portfolios, including on-site generation, long-term power contracts, renewable energy certificates (RECs), and utility-offered green pricing programs. These investments provide a clean energy source devoid of fuel costs.
• The wind power market faces several obstacles, including high initial capital costs, difficulties with grid integration and transmission, and rising development costs driven by steel price increases, unfavorable exchange rates, and a supply of wind turbines that cannot meet demand. Additionally, corporations may be concerned about aesthetic impacts and the effect of projects on bat and bird populations.
• While wind power can help the United States and corporations diversify into clean energy technologies to address climate change, enhance energy security, and create local jobs, current policy does not fully account for its environmental benefits.
