WRI Statement Condemning Racism and Supporting Black Lives

A statement from World Resources Institute (WRI) President & CEO Andrew Steer condemning systemic racism and police brutality in the United States, while committing the organization to ensure environmental and development solutions benefit communities of color.

• Andrew Steer, President & CEO of the World Resources Institute, asserts that systemic and institutional racism directed toward Black people has been ingrained in the United States for too long and must be actively overcome.
• The statement calls for government and institutional leaders to address the severe fraying of trust between citizens and governments by listening more, including more voices, and reducing the gross inequality that underlies current problems.
• WRI acknowledges that the environmental movement has not done enough to address racism and commits to ensuring that solutions for climate change, extreme poverty, and environmental degradation benefit all society members, particularly disproportionately impacted communities of color.
