Informing National Climate Action with the Green Economy Model: A Technical Description of the Structures and Processes

This technical note introduces the Green Economy Model (GEM), a tool designed to help policymakers, experts, and academics analyze the socioeconomic and environmental impacts of transitioning to a low-carbon economy to overcome barriers to national climate ambition.

• National climate ambitions are currently limited by gaps in analytical skills and a lack of understanding regarding the impacts of transitioning to a low-carbon economy versus the consequences of inaction, alongside concerns over financing, institutional constraints, and political barriers.
• The Green Economy Model (GEM) is designed to improve the understanding of socioeconomic, environmental, and climate linkages, provide decision-makers with policy development tools, and address coordination gaps and technical capacity in low-carbon policymaking.
