Examples of How BESCOM’s Net-Metering Program Works

This guide outlines the net-metering tariff structure for rooftop solar PV systems under BESCOM, detailing payment rates for excess generation based on subsidy status and system size.

• BESCOM pays a promotional rate of 9.56 INR per kWh for net excess generation provided to the grid monthly for rooftop solar PV systems that did not receive a capital subsidy from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Systems that did receive the subsidy are paid 7.20 INR per kWh.
• Customers whose rooftop solar PV systems do not provide net excess generation to the grid monthly are billed based on their normal tariff rate for electricity consumption, minus the generation from their rooftop solar system.
• For systems smaller than 10kW commissioned after May 2, 2016, the promotional rate changed to 7.08 INR/kWh, which significantly impacts the economics of rooftop solar PV in Bengaluru.
