Measuring to Manage

The World Resources Institute (WRI) provides a guide for governments, industry associations, and environmental organizations to design and implement greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting and reporting programs for corporations based on international standards.

• The guide is designed to assist entities in creating corporate-level GHG accounting and reporting platforms, which can serve various functions including voluntary reporting, regulatory systems, and the tracking of GHG reduction targets across different geographic scales such as national, regional, state, provincial, or municipal levels.
• The publication addresses four primary design and implementation questions: the type of program needed for specific objectives, the geographic coverage, the necessary accounting, calculation, and reporting specifications, and the methods for ensuring the quality of reported information.
• The guide leverages the combined experience of the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) to help designers develop customized accounting and reporting specifications.
