Climate Watch NDC Tracker: Estimating global and national GHG emissions based on emissions reduction targets in countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions

This technical note outlines the methodology used by Climate Watch to estimate future global and country-level GHG emissions by assuming the full achievement of targets set in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), supplemented by external data for uncovered sectors and gases.

• Climate Watch uses a methodology to estimate future economy-wide GHG emissions for countries based on the assumption that the targets communicated in their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are fully achieved.
• To ensure comprehensive estimates, Climate Watch utilizes supplemental data sources for greenhouse gases and sectors not included in NDCs, and aggregates global emissions from country-level data while accounting for emissions not covered by NDCs, such as international bunkers.
