The EcoWatch guide to Earth Day 2023

The guide highlights activities for Earth Day 2023, including EARTHDAY.ORG's first 'Earth Week' (April 14-22) featuring virtual and in-person events, the Earth Day 2023 Festival in New York City, and advocacy efforts by Polar Bears International to promote the IPCC Sixth Assessment Synthesis Report to protect Arctic habitats.

• The 2023 Earth Day theme is "Invest in Our Planet," emphasizing that climate change can be solved if governments, businesses, and individuals allocate time, money, innovation, and social commitment to environmental action.
• EARTHDAY.ORG organized its first 'Earth Week' from April 14 to 22, 2023, featuring the 'Earth Day Live' series with topics such as fashion recycling, COP28, and tree planting, alongside global in-person events including a dive cleanup in Hawaii and a protest in London.
• The Earth Day Initiative hosted a hybrid event schedule including an in-person festival in New York City's Union Square on April 16 and a Virtual Stage on April 19 featuring experts like Bill Nye and Katharine Hayhoe.
• Polar Bears International identifies the climate crisis as the primary threat to polar bears, noting that the Arctic is warming nearly four times faster than the global average due to deforestation and fossil fuel combustion. The organization advocates for the use of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Synthesis Report as a guide for climate action.
