PERNYATAAN BERSAMA DESAKAN PERBAIKAN TATA KELOLA KOMODITAS BERKELANJUTAN MENGHADAPI EUDR DAN TUNTUTAN PASAR GLOBAL

A joint statement by a coalition of 45 Indonesian civil society organizations urging the Indonesian government to improve sustainable commodity governance in response to the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and global market demands.

• The European Commission proposed a 12-month delay for the implementation of the EUDR. The original deadline of December 30, 2024, is proposed to move to December 30, 2025, for large companies and June 30, 2026, for micro and small enterprises.
• The coalition expresses concern that the proposed delay in the EUDR's full implementation could slow down ongoing improvement efforts within the commodity sector.
• Indonesia has five commodities affected by the EUDR: wood, palm oil, cocoa, coffee, and rubber. The coalition urges the government to strengthen existing schemes such as the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) and the Legality and Sustainability Verification System (SVLK) to align them with EUDR requirements.
• The coalition demands that the Indonesian government take full responsibility in navigating the EUDR by improving inter-agency coordination, ensuring the protection of Indigenous Peoples' rights through Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), and providing comprehensive technical and financial support for smallholders.
• Improving commodity governance is expected to increase the global competitiveness of Indonesian products, support the FOLU netsink 2030 target by reducing deforestation, and improve the welfare of smallholders, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities.
