A joint statement by Indonesia Corruption Watch, Trend Asia, and KontraS condemning police brutality during protests on August 28, 2025, and calling for the defunding of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) due to excessive spending on tactical vehicles and a massive budget increase for 2026.

• On August 28, 2025, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) carried out repressive actions against protesters in front of the DPR RI, resulting in approximately 600 detainees and numerous injuries. One individual, an online taxi driver named Affan Kurniawan, died after being run over by a tactical vehicle (rantis).
• Between 2020 and 2024, the Indonesian National Police spent at least Rp1.93 trillion to purchase 98 tactical and special vehicles, with unit prices ranging from Rp3 billion to Rp75 billion. Frequent providers included PT Mayapada Auto Sempurna and PT Anja Bangun Selaras, the latter of which is alleged to be a problematic company.
• Global trade data indicates that between 2019 and 2023, Indonesia imported 154 tactical vehicles and spare parts from the South Korean company Daeji Precision & Industries Co Ltd (Daeji P&I), totaling US$63.8 million (approximately Rp1.05 trillion). The 'Tambora' model from Daeji P&I is suspected to be the vehicle involved in the death of Affan Kurniawan on August 28, 2025.
• The Indonesian National Police requested an additional budget of Rp63.7 trillion on July 7, 2025, which was approved by Commission III of the DPR on August 15, 2025. This brings the total planned budget for the police in 2026 to Rp173.47 trillion.
