Barriers and Enablers for Decarbonising UK Manufacturing

The Transforming Foundation Industries Research and Innovation Hub (TransFIRe) is working to optimize resource use across six UK foundation industries and their supply chains. Based on interviews with 12 academic leads and seven trade organization representatives, the report identifies shared barriers to innovation, such as inadequate infrastructure and poor recycling incentives, while highlighting regulation changes and financial support as key enablers for decarbonization.

• Interviews with academic leads and trade organization representatives revealed that the primary obstacles to resource innovation in UK foundation industries are a lack of infrastructure and insufficient incentives for recycling.
• Participants identified that innovation within these sectors could be facilitated through the implementation of financial support and changes to regulation.
