Utmaningar och möjligheter: kommunernas arbete med hållbar konsumtion

The report finds that while most Swedish municipalities address sustainable consumption within their own operations, few target households or businesses. A significant majority of officials (79%) identify a lack of political support as their primary need. The report recommends systematic tracking of all purchases and investments to calculate environmental impacts and suggests that the government empower county administrative boards to coordinate local efforts.

• A survey of 119 Swedish municipalities reveals that most are working with sustainable consumption in their own operations, but only about 30% are working to promote it among households, and an even smaller proportion target companies and organisations.
• Approximately 80% of municipal officials responsible for environment, climate, and sustainability issues state that political support is their greatest need to advance sustainable consumption work.
