Fraction of Scrapped Replaced (%)

This guide explains the 'Fraction of Scrapped Replaced (%)' variable within the LEAP software, which determines the proportion of scrapped devices that are immediately replaced by new sales.

• The 'Fraction of Scrapped Replaced' variable defines the percentage of devices scrapped in a given year that are immediately replaced by additional sales of new devices. These replacement sales increase the stock of new devices at the same LEAP tree branch and may result in different emission factors, fuel economies, or energy intensities.
• The default setting for the 'Fraction of Scrapped Replaced' variable is 100%, indicating that all vehicles are replaced immediately. These replacement sales are counted separately from and in addition to the figures provided in the 'sales' variable.
