Dispatch Rule

This guide explains the dispatch rules used in the LEAP Transformation module when operating in simulation mode to determine how processes meet energy and power requirements.

• LEAP utilizes two distinct dispatch modes: Historical Dispatch, which runs processes based on the Historical Production variable for years preceding the first simulation year, and Simulation, which applies specific Process Dispatch Rules from the first simulation year onwards.
• There are five available dispatch rules, some of which require specific data types to be defined in the Module Properties screen: PercentShare, ProportionalToCapacity, FullCapacity, MeritOrderDispatch, and RunningCost.
• The PercentShare rule allows a process to meet a specific percentage fraction of module requirements, provided there is sufficient capacity, and is useful for incorporating results from other models.
• Rules requiring capacity data include ProportionalToCapacity, where processes are dispatched in proportion to available capacity (Capacity * Maximum Availability), and FullCapacity, where processes run at full available capacity regardless of module requirements, such as for export-driven industries.
• The MeritOrderDispatch rule, which requires both capacity and system load curve data, simulates power plant dispatch to meet annual and instantaneous demand based on Merit Order variables, limited by the maximum capacity factor in each period.
