Feminist Political Ecology, Migration and Climate

The paper advocates for the use of feminist political ecology to analyze the complex relationship between climate change and migration, arguing that current research underestimates the multi-scalar power relations that drive vulnerability and (im)mobility.

• Research on the relationship between climate and migration has shifted from simple environmentally deterministic views toward more complex accounts of human (im)mobility, yet it still underestimates the multi-scalar power relations that influence these movements.
• A feminist political ecology of migration is proposed as a method to improve the understanding of gender and social inequities within the climate-migration nexus by analyzing power relations across various scales of the global economy.
• Developing a more nuanced understanding of power relations across different scales is essential for both the conceptual understanding of the climate-migration-inequality nexus and for addressing the root causes of these issues.
