Stock and Stock Share

This guide explains how the Stock and Stock Share variables function within the LEAP software's stock-turnover analysis, detailing the mechanisms for modeling how new technology standards affect the overall average values of a device stock over time.

• Stock-turnover analysis is used to model the gradual improvement of average values across a total stock of devices as new technologies replace older ones, particularly when new energy efficiency or emissions standards are introduced for new sales.
• LEAP supports two methods for specifying Stocks and Sales data: a bottom-up approach at technology branches or a top-down approach where total values are entered at top-level branches and distributed to lower levels using Stock Share and Sales Share variables.
• The Stock variable initializes calculations and works with the Stock Vintage Profile (which distributes stock by age) and the First Sales Year variable. After the First Sales Year, LEAP calculates stock based on future sales, retirement of old devices, and forced scrappage, ignoring any manually entered Stock values.
