• Local governments in Indonesia encounter substantial technical and regulatory obstacles when seeking climate finance for transport, specifically regarding their inability to access foreign climate finance directly and a deficiency in long-term financial planning expertise.
• To improve access to climate finance, Indonesia needs to enhance collaboration between national and local governments and build institutional capacity.
• Attracting funding and partnerships requires projects to be financially viable, well-prepared, and aligned with national climate objectives, utilizing feasibility assessments and sustainable financing strategies. The use of public-private partnerships and blended finance is suggested to lower investment risks and draw in private capital.
