The Scenario Explorer

The Scenario Explorer is a feature of the LEAP software's Overviews View that enables users to interactively test the impact of changing Key Parameters on scenario results using slider bars. It supports the management of scenarios, the use of tags for filtering parameters, and the ability to toggle 'mini-scenarios' via a multiple inheritance feature to explore complex climate mitigation strategies.

• The Scenario Explorer uses color-coded rows for scenarios and columns for Key Parameters, employing slider bars to adjust parameter values. If the Auto Refresh button is enabled, LEAP automatically recalculates affected scenarios immediately; otherwise, users must manually click the Refresh button.
• Key Parameters in the Scenario Explorer are linked to specific branches, variables, and regions in a LEAP data set, typically to Key Assumption branches. Users can right-click a Key Parameter to edit its definition, including minimum and maximum allowable values, labels, and to add, delete, or reorder parameters.
• The tool allows for the management of scenarios directly within the Overviews view, including creating new scenarios based on existing ones, showing or hiding scenarios, and locking scenarios to prevent accidental changes to Key Parameter values.
• A Tags filter in the main toolbar can be used to display a subset of key parameters. This filter supports combining multiple tags using 'any' (OR) or 'all' (AND) logic.
• The Scenario Explorer supports 'Additional Scenarios', which leverages LEAP's multiple inheritance feature. This allows users to interactively switch 'mini-scenarios' (such as those for building insulation or renewable energy) on or off to see their combined impact on an overall scenario, such as a climate mitigation scenario.
