Tagging Branches

This guide explains how to use tags in the Low Emissions Analysis Platform (LEAP) to organize and filter data, particularly for technologies that fit into multiple categories or for long lists of processes in Transformation modules where sub-folders are not permitted.

• Tags in LEAP provide a flexible alternative to the standard tree structure, allowing users to classify technologies that belong to more than one category. This is especially useful in Transformation modules, such as electric generation, where branches do not support sub-folders and long lists of processes would otherwise be difficult to analyze.
• Users can assign multiple tags to branches to filter and organize results, such as categorizing power plants by technology type (thermal, renewable, nuclear), status (existing or new), or specificity (specific or generic). For the purpose of viewing results, a branch must be limited to a single tag from any one tag group, and these tags can then be used as an additional dimension in Results View tables and charts.
• LEAP provides several tools for managing tags in Analysis View, including a tag toolbar for typing labels, an 'Add' button for existing tags, and a 'Delete' button. The 'Manage Tags' screen (Alt+T) allows for color-coded grouping, while the 'Tag Painter' tool enables users to copy tags from one branch to others. Additional settings allow users to determine if tags are added to or replace existing ones, and whether tags are applied only to a specific branch or to that branch and all its children.
