Feedstock Fuel Shares

This guide from the Stockholm Environment Institute explains how feedstock fuel shares and auxiliary fuels are defined and treated within the LEAP software's process analysis.

- Process efficiency is calculated as the ratio of the total energy content of all output fuels produced divided by the total energy content of all feedstock fuels consumed. A feedstock fuel's fuel share represents the percentage of energy input it provides to its parent process, which is typically 100% for processes with only one feedstock fuel.
- Feedstock fuels are distinguished from auxiliary fuels based on whether they are converted during the process. Feedstocks are converted, whereas auxiliary fuels are subsidiary consumption items specified as energy consumed per unit of energy consumed or produced; consequently, auxiliary fuels are excluded from the calculation of overall process energy efficiency.
