Useful Energy Demand

- Useful energy demand is defined as the portion of final energy demand that performs useful work, such as cooking, heating, or cooling, after accounting for losses in final energy consuming devices. While typically smaller than final energy demand, it can be larger for devices with efficiencies exceeding 100%, such as heat pumps and refrigerators, because they utilize both electricity and ambient energy.
- By default, the software only calculates useful energy demand for branches where a useful energy analysis is being conducted to minimize data requirements. Users can enable calculations for all demand branches via the 'Settings: Scope' screen by selecting 'Calculate Useful Energy for All Demands', which then introduces an 'Energy Efficiency' variable for all demand technologies.
