Time-Series Wizard

The Time-Series Wizard is a three-page tool in LEAP used to create time-series expressions through various mathematical functions and data sources. Users can select from interpolation, step functions, and smooth curves for future data points, or use linear, exponential, and logistic projections to extrapolate from historical data. Data can be entered manually via keyboard, imported or linked from Microsoft Excel, or retrieved from the LEAP Cloud Database Server (LCDS), which provides international open-source data on energy, emissions, and development.

• The Time-Series Wizard offers two main categories of functions: those that calculate values for intervening years based on specified future data points, and those that extrapolate future values from historical data using least-squares curve fits.
• Specific function types serve different modeling needs: interpolation and smooth curves are suited for gradual changes, such as device penetration, while step functions are used for discrete changes, such as adding power plants.
• Users can source data from three different methods: direct keyboard entry, Microsoft Excel (via import or live link), and the LEAP Cloud Database Server (LCDS).
• The LEAP Cloud Database Server (LCDS) provides access to international open-source national statistics, including datasets from the World Bank World Development Indicators and UN energy statistics and population prospects.
