Report on the Audit of the Financial Statements for the shortened financial year ended 31 December 2016

This document is an audit report conducted by KPMG Austria GmbH on the financial statements of Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) Verein für nachhaltige Energie for the shortened financial year ending 31 December 2016. The audit confirms that the financial statements present fairly the organization's financial position and performance in accordance with voluntarily applied Austrian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

• KPMG issued an unqualified audit opinion, stating that the financial statements for the shortened year ended 31 December 2016 present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position and performance of Sustainable Energy for All Verein für nachhaltige Energie.
• The organization transitioned in 2016 from a UN initiative to an independent International Non-Governmental Organization incorporated in Austria with the status of a "Quasi-International Organization" (QIO).
• For the period from 4 January 2016 to 31 December 2016, the organization reported total revenue of 162,949.48 EUR, consisting entirely of non-earmarked contributions.
• Total expenses for the period were 162,949.48 EUR, resulting in a net operating income of zero. The largest expense category was 'Other Operating Expenses' at 158,040.85 EUR, which included 119,475.29 EUR in legal and professional fees.
• As of 31 December 2016, the organization's total assets consisted of 244,607.37 EUR in receivables, specifically cash held at the United Nations Foundation.
• The organization's total liabilities as of 31 December 2016 were 244,607.37 EUR, comprising a bank overdraft of 114.00 EUR, accounts payable of 120,642.85 EUR, and other liabilities of 123,850.52 EUR.
• The audit found no evidence of material weaknesses in internal controls over financial reporting, nor any facts suggesting doubt about the organization's ability to continue as a going concern.
• SEforALL established a formal Relationship Agreement with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Executive Office on 23 December 2016, which includes the creation of a SEforALL Advisory Committee and a SEforALL Coordination Committee.
• The organization's Strategic Framework for Results (2016-2021) focuses on five competencies: marshalling evidence, benchmarking progress, amplifying voices of the energy poor, telling success stories, and connecting stakeholders.
• Despite launching a strategic staffing exercise in May 2016 and approving guidelines in October 2016, the SEforALL QIO had no staff as of 31 December 2016.
