PLATFORMS FOR COOPERATION AND IMPLEMENTATION

This fact sheet from Sustainable Energy for All outlines various global platforms, compacts, and coalitions designed to accelerate the energy transition and achieve Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7).

• Energy Compacts are voluntary commitments created during the 2021 UN High-Level Dialogue on Energy to speed up the delivery of SDG7. Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) coordinates the Energy Compact Action Network and assisted in the development and launch of these compacts.
• The Just and Inclusive Energy Transition (JIET) Compact was endorsed by G20 energy ministers in October 2024. It focuses on promoting sustainable economic growth, respecting human rights, fostering social dialogue, and tackling energy poverty.
• Mission 300 is a joint initiative by the African Development Bank and the World Bank that aims to provide electricity to 300 million people in Africa by 2030. The initiative requires a $90 billion investment to rehabilitate and expand electricity grids, sourced from private businesses, philanthropies, finance institutions, development agencies, and multilateral development banks.
• Several specialized compacts and coalitions target specific transition goals: the No New Coal Compact focuses on ending unabated coal power generation; the Cool Coalition (with over 130 members) promotes sustainable cooling and energy-efficient technologies; Mission Efficiency works to accelerate the transition to energy-efficient economies; and the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy (CFE) Compact aims to decarbonize global electricity systems.
• The Council for Critical Minerals Development in the Global South focuses on creating equitable energy transitions by developing critical mineral value chains in developing countries to encourage socio-economic growth and industrialization. Additionally, the Energy Compact on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment focuses on gender-responsive policies and women's leadership in the energy transition.
