Powering Healthcare Africa Project (2021-2023)

The Powering Healthcare Africa Project (2021-2023), supported by Power Africa and led by SEforALL, seeks to close the energy access gap in healthcare facilities across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. The project focuses on equipping governments with evidence and solutions to reach universal health facility electrification by 2030 through six key activity areas: data and mapping, coordination and collaboration, thought leadership on clean energy solutions, advocacy, innovative finance, and country-level strategic advisory.

• The project aims to drive the health facility electrification agenda to ensure universal electrification of health facilities by 2030, specifically targeting sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
• The project's strategic objectives include securing stronger government commitments and policies, increasing public and private investments, improving intervention sustainability via business model innovations, and establishing successful country-level programmes as knowledge sources.
• The project implements its goals through six primary activity streams: building an evidence base via a Global Assessment of Health Facility Electrification report and heatmaps; strengthening cooperation between health and energy sectors; developing white papers on innovative service-based business models for distributed clean energy; conducting advocacy through high-level events and media; conceptualizing a Results-Based Financing (RBF) window to de-risk investment; and providing technical advisory for National Powering Healthcare Roadmaps.
