Gender and Energy Compact

The Gender and Energy Compact is a coalition led by UNIDO, ENERGIA, and GWNET, supported by several governments, to ensure women have equal opportunity to lead and benefit from the energy transition and equal access to sustainable energy services. The coalition targets five key outcomes: eliminating energy and time poverty for women, adopting gender-responsive energy policies, increasing resources for women-led businesses, improving career advancement for women in the energy sector, and enhancing the availability of sex-disaggregated data. Signatories are expected to submit individual commitments by 2030 to support SDG7 and SDG5.

• The coalition establishes two primary goals: ensuring women have equal opportunity to lead, participate in, and benefit from a just, sustainable, and inclusive energy transition, and ensuring women have equal access to and control over sustainable energy products and services.
• The Compact identifies five specific outcomes to achieve its goals: the elimination of energy and time poverty for women; the adoption of gender-responsive energy transition pathways and policies; increased access to finance and resources for women-owned businesses; the creation of career advancement and decent employment for women in the energy sector; and the improvement of sex-disaggregated data and tools for gender-responsive monitoring and evaluation.
• To support the achievement of SDG7 (universal access to sustainable energy) and SDG5 (gender equality), all signatories will submit individual Energy Compacts detailing their specific commitments through 2030.
