Promoting Energy-Efficient Lifestyles and Decision-Making

This compendium, developed by India's Bureau of Energy Efficiency in partnership with Sustainable Energy for All and Mission Efficiency, examines how emotion-based narratives and impactful messaging can encourage energy-efficient lifestyles and decision-making across G20 countries.

• The compendium proposes that energy efficiency transformations can be driven by emotion-based narratives centered on four pillars: empowering individuals to be part of the solution, creating positive emotional connections to energy efficiency, recognizing energy-efficiency champions, and using innovative communication channels to increase reach.
• In India, the government's Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) campaign aims to transition collective behavior from harmful consumption patterns toward mindful resource use, identifying energy efficiency as a primary mechanism for this shift.
• Investing in energy efficiency across households, enterprises, and countries is described as a fundamental element for meeting development, energy, and climate goals, with benefits including increased energy access, reduced fossil fuel reliance, improved grid reliability, and accelerated renewable energy benefits.
