Access to cooling needs - Data and trends

This document introduces a needs-based approach to sustainable cooling, linking it to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and identifying three core cooling needs: food, nutrition and agriculture; health services; and human comfort and safety.

• Sustainable cooling is identified as a foundation for achieving multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically those related to poverty (SDG1), hunger (SDG2), health and well-being (SDG3), affordable and clean energy (SDG7), employment (SDG8), and sustainable cities and communities (SDG11).
• The World Bank Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), the Cool Coalition, and the University of Birmingham, among other partners, promote a needs-based approach to cooling access focused on three primary areas: health services, human comfort and safety, and food, nutrition and agriculture.
