External Engagement: Experiences from Ghana and Mozambique

This report examines the external engagement and development experiences of Ghana and Mozambique, highlighting the roles of civil society in Ghana and pragmatic governance in Mozambique.

• Ghana has maintained a positive status with international donors, attributed in part to its position as a relative success within a region characterized by uncertainty and the significant involvement of Ghanaian civil society in development, governance, social, and economic initiatives at both local and national levels.
• Mozambique provides lessons for other African states through its government's adoption of a pragmatic approach that prioritizes development over ideology and its acceptance of its role as a regional player.
