green energy infrastructure project portfolio

This case study describes Nuru, a green mini-grid energy infrastructure developer in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) funded by Team Europe and Gaia Impact. The project provides solar-hybrid distributed renewable energy (DRE) to households, SMEs, and critical services, reducing reliance on diesel generators.

• Nuru's project portfolio in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) provides distributed renewable energy (DRE) to approximately 15,000 people, 796 SMEs, and 28 critical services, resulting in the mitigation of 3,300 cumulative tonnes of CO2 emissions to date.
• The infrastructure project has installed 1.7 MW of current capacity and has 13.7 MW of projects already financed, with a total budget of approximately EUR 63,000,000. It has created 2,928 off-grid connections and 116 new local full-time jobs, over 27% of which are held by women.
• Nuru utilizes blended finance, combining private funding from the French venture capital firm Gaia Impact with Team Europe financing from Proparco, Groupe Agence Française de Développement, and EDFI ElectriFI.
