Phaesun GmbH & Horn Renewables – Business Opportunities with Solar Systems Somaliland (Somalia)

Phaesun GmbH and Horn Renewables implemented 'Business Opportunities with Solar Systems' (BOSS) in Somaliland from 2012 to 2015. • The introduction of solar cooling and freezing kits, specifically the Steca PF 166 solar fridge, enabled shop owners to improve businesses and allowed fishermen to produce ice, resulting in higher margins by enabling the sale of fresh fish in cities.
• Between 2012 and the end of 2015, the BOSS initiative resulted in the opening of over 50 solar charging stations and light rental shops across 23 locations, the installation of 33 solar cooling kits for restaurants, shops, and fishermen, and the provision of solar-powered fans and TVs in five villages.
• Other solar applications implemented include the rental of Ulitium LED lamps for households and the illumination of coastal salt fields, as well as juice pressing and blending services in two agricultural communities.
