Gham Power – Powering health: KIOCH’s solar transformation (Nepal)

This case study describes the installation of a 31.6 kWp commercial rooftop solar PV system at KIOCH, a pediatric hospital in Damak, Jhapa, Nepal, to address grid instability and reduce reliance on diesel generators.

• KIOCH, a pediatric hospital, faced operational disruptions and financial strain due to frequent power cuts and voltage fluctuations from the grid, which increased its reliance on expensive backup diesel generators.
• The installation of a 31.6 kW solar system provides sustainable power for 200 hospital beds. Over a 25-year period, the project is expected to displace 10.5 kiloliters of diesel and reduce carbon emissions by 70 tons.
• The project was implemented by Gham Power with financial support from GRID Alternatives and included technical training for 10 international volunteers from RES in off-grid solar installation.
