Call to Action: Roadmap for the DRE sector to survive and flourish in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis

The Alliance for Renewable Electrification (ARE) and its partners issued a call to action detailing five recommendations to protect the decentralised renewable energy (DRE) sector from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

• The COVID-19 crisis threatens both existing decentralised renewable energy (DRE) projects that provide power to essential services for millions and the overall future of the sector, which in turn endangers the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG7.
• ARE and its partners propose five specific recommendations for governments, philanthropies, and funders to support the DRE sector: the creation of a 'Global DRE Relief Fund', the fast-tracking of funding and procurement procedures, the establishment of a 'Rural Electrification Stimulus Plan', the official recognition of the DRE sector as an 'essential service', and increased technical assistance for DRE companies.
