Okra & Creeds Energy – 50 household mesh-grid pilot (Nigeria)

This case study describes a pilot project in Bassa, Nigeria, where Creeds Energy used Okra's mesh-grid technology to create a 'Hub-and-Spoke' power sharing network for 50 households. By connecting high-powered prosumers and businesses (hubs) to low-powered residential users (spokes), the project reduced the average CAPEX per connection from $642 to $450 and achieved over 99% up-time.

• Creeds Energy implemented a 'Hub-and-Spoke' topology using Okra's mesh-grid kits, which allows high-powered prosumers and local businesses to share excess power with nearby low-powered residential households. This configuration enabled the energisation of 46 more households than originally planned, nearly doubling the initial target.
• The pilot project targeted productive centres including a barber shop, a phone-charging shop, a mosque, and a Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC). These entities transitioned from diesel gen-sets to 100% renewable energy.
• The reconfiguration to a Hub-and-Spoke design reduced the average CAPEX cost per connection from an initial estimate of $642 to $450 per household. The network currently maintains an up-time of over 99%.
• Financial performance for the pilot showed an actual Average Revenue per User (ARPU) of ₦3,500 Naira, which is ₦500 less than the originally modelled target of ₦4,000 Naira.
• Following the pilot's success, Creeds Energy is working with the DART Fund by All: On to secure funding for a scale-up project targeting 1,000 households across 18 locations, utilizing a modified Hub-and-Spoke configuration to further reduce costs.
