Cities Designed to Shape and Enable New Mobility

RMI proposes the creation of MOD Cities—modular and modifiable mobility-oriented developments—as collaborative test sites where municipal governments, developers, and the vehicle-service industry can co-innovate. These sites aim to integrate urban design with new mobility services to improve people's health and livelihoods while allowing policymakers to test flexible zoning and land use codes.

• MOD Cities are envisioned as collaborative living test sites involving municipal governments, developers, financiers, the vehicle-service industry, and urban designers to innovate at the intersection of urban design, vehicles, and new mobility services.
• The MOD Cities framework intends to provide a space for the built environment and vehicle-service industries to develop ground-tested expertise and for policymakers to observe the effects of revising zoning practices and land use codes.
