Accelerating China's Green Transition Through Zero-Carbon Industrial Parks

This report by RMI examines the role of zero-carbon industrial parks in accelerating China's green transition and high-quality economic growth, analyzing technical, business, and institutional innovations required to meet national climate goals.

• Industrial parks in China are critical to the energy transition due to their scale, with over 15,000 parks hosting 80% of industrial enterprises, producing more than half of national industrial output, and using approximately one-third of national energy.
• China's national zero-carbon park initiative utilizes "near-zero emissions" requirements to accelerate clean-energy deployment, support low-carbon manufacturing, and build green supply chains.
• China has established over 159 overseas industrial parks in Asia and Africa, which are transitioning from traditional manufacturing hubs into innovation-driven platforms that promote low-carbon technologies and regional cooperation on sustainable development.
