AXA doit dire non à l’importation de gaz de schiste en Europe

Reclaim Finance calls on AXA to cease providing insurance for the Brunsbüttel LNG terminal and other new fossil fuel projects. The organization argues that such infrastructure facilitates the import of shale gas, contradicts AXA's leadership in the Net Zero Insurance Alliance, and ignores calls from the French Ministry of Economy to exit non-conventional oil and gas sectors.

• The proposed Brunsbüttel LNG terminal, supported by Gasunie, would have an annual import capacity of 8 billion cubic meters of gas, resulting in 14 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, excluding methane leaks.
• The Brunsbüttel project is criticized for its long operational lifespan of 30 to 50 years, which extends beyond the 2035 deadline for the complete decarbonization of Europe's electricity sector required for net-zero by 2050.
• Supplying the Brunsbüttel terminal would necessitate the opening of new shale gas fields in the United States, as shale gas wells typically have a lifespan of only about 4 years.
• Despite AXA's role as leader of the Net Zero Insurance Alliance and calls from the French Minister of Economy, Finance and Recovery to exit non-conventional oil and gas, AXA lacks a policy to regulate its support for the shale oil and gas industry and has not committed to exiting these sectors by 2030.
