Greenhouse gas mitigation scenarios for major emitting countries

The report finds that greenhouse gas emissions in 26 major emitting countries and regions are projected to remain above 2005 levels in most cases by 2030 under current policies. While 16 of these entities are on track or close to meeting their original NDC targets, 11 are off-track to meet their updated targets, and five have not yet submitted updates.

• Under current policies, economy-wide greenhouse gas emissions for the 26 analyzed countries as a group are projected to increase by 8% to 25% between 2005 and 2030. Emissions are expected to remain above 2005 levels in 16 of the countries, with individual projections ranging from a 51% decrease to a 140% increase over the same period.
• Progress toward Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets varies: 16 of the 26 analyzed countries and regions are on track or close to achieving their original NDC targets. However, only eight are on track to meet updated NDC targets (with two more being close), while 11 are off-track and five have not submitted an update.
