Greenhouse gas mitigation scenarios for major emitting countries

A report by NewClimate Institute, PBL, and IIASA analyzing projected greenhouse gas emissions in 26 major emitting countries and regions up to 2030 under current policies, focusing on their progress toward Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets.

• Under current policies, economy-wide greenhouse gas emissions for the 26 analyzed countries as a group are projected to increase by 8% to 25% between 2005 and 2030. Emissions are expected to remain above 2005 levels in 16 of these countries, with individual projections ranging from a 51% decrease to a 140% increase over the same period.
• Regarding Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets, 16 of the 26 analyzed countries and regions are on track or close to achieving their previously set targets. However, progress toward updated targets is lower: 8 countries are on track to meet updated targets, 2 are close, 11 are off-track, and 5 have not yet submitted an update.
