Evaluating Corporate Target Setting in the Netherlands 2026

This executive summary provides an updated analysis of the climate strategies of 28 companies operating in the Netherlands, commissioned by Milieudefensie. The report evaluates ambition, target-setting, and transition planning to identify gaps between corporate action and science-based requirements for a 1.5°C pathway.

• None of the 28 companies analyzed are currently aligned with the emission reductions necessary for a global 1.5°C compatible pathway.
• The majority of corporate climate plans are insufficient; three-quarters are rated as inadequate or highly inadequate, while only seven companies (one quarter) have plans described as moderately adequate.
• There is a significant accountability gap in mid-term planning, as most companies lack emission targets for the period between 2030 and 2050. Additionally, only five companies possess long-term targets rated as good or moderately adequate.
